When I stop Windows Firewall service, I can enable the sharing that I want. Obviously the windows firewall was preventing the sharing that I would like to do on my network.

I am uncomfortable running with out having a working firewall on my computer. How do I configure my Win 7 machine's windows firewall to allow for communications with my homegroup? I have tried restoring the defaults. This did not allow the communications. I have attempted to find homegroup settings in the advanced settings of windows firewall. No luck there.

I lost access to my network drive (ethernet). Followed some instruction on varies forum and deleted the 'Client for Microsoft Networks'. After that I can't install the client and still can't access my network drive. After weeks of pulling hair out, rebooting, deleting network interface, etc. I managed to fix it a few minutes ago. I am not sure what fix but here's what I have done:

1. Disable Network interface:

1.1. Settings > Network & Internet > Ethernet > Change adapter Options

1.2. Right click on the network interface and hit Disable.

2. Remove 'File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks'

2.1. Right click on the network interface and hit Properties

2.2. Select 'File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks' and hit Uninstall.

3. ReInstall the missing component again (in order):

3.1. Hit Install, select Client > 'Client for Microsoft Networks', Hit ok.

3.2. Hit Install, select Service > 'File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks', Hit ok.

4. ReEnable the network interface:

4.1. Right click on the network interface and hit Enable.

Not sure if you need to Reboot, but I did.
